On January 1st every year most people make New Years Resolutions that are generally goals to better themselves. Losing weight, learning a new skill, getting better grades etc.
This year I encourage you to set a goal that should be carried out daily and is recommended for all Christians. Having a quiet time. A quiet time is simply spending time reading and studying God’s Word and praying.
Spending time with God daily can be a challenge and a lot of people dismiss it because they claim to not have enough time.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (ESV)
Taking the time to do a quiet time is beneficial to me even though I may have to remove something like watching an episode of TV or having a few extra minutes of sleep to complete it. I have a better attitude, I am happier and I have a better interaction with everyone I interact with throughout the day.
Reading the Bible daily is not a magical remedy that removes all of my problems. However, if I apply what I have read then I know how to handle bad situations better, how to have patience and grace and I have peace that God is control even when I am overwhelmed or stressed.
I would strongly encourage you to make spending time with God a priority. Make having a daily Quiet Time one of your 2014 reselolutions. Apply what you are reading and see the difference it makes in your life.
